Hello! It's me, Lucy! I made this thing you're (maybe) (hopefully) reading. If you've stumbled across this page randomly, a double hello to you. This is a comic about two cats who are friends, birds, and other such things. I draw everything with pencil on paper and add color digitally. Now, onto the long and boring and introspective bit:
I came up with these characters nearly three years ago, although they were very different from how they exist now, and they didn't originally have much of a story at all. It was around two years ago that their story came to be, and when I decided I would create a comic out of them. I made versions and versions and more versions of the first chapter, never quite satisified with anything, and as the months went on, I felt unsure that this was even a story I wanted to tell anymore, as it is a little different from my usual work.
It was a conversation I had with a webcomic creator turned published author at a zine fair which finally motivated me to create this version of the comic. I told her that I had been planning the comic for years, but I kept putting it off till I could get everything perfect. She told me something which really stuck with me, that I could wait forever to finally share my comic with the world, making it as perfect as can be, but who is to say that in two years time this story will even be the one I want to tell? It's true, even now, that this story feels like it belongs to a past version of me, and that its anxieties are that of a Lucy who had only very recently started living on her own. But I believe that, no matter where I have been in life, the heartbeat of my stories has always remained the same, and these are characters which mean a lot to me, and I want to let them out of my head and onto some paper or a screen. Maybe they'll mean something to someone else too.
